Layover of more than 12 Hrs on international flights...

I am flying from overseas by Continental & United airline.

First I am flying to New Jersy by Continental. After entering to us Continental has a layover of 13 Hrs in New Jersy connecting to another continental flight to Chicago.

Then next flight from chicago to my destination has another 13.5 Hrs layover in chicago before I connect to United Airline.

What are the FAA rules for such a long layover ? Do they have to put me up in a Hotel with transportation & meals ?

What are my rights as a US citizen flying US Airlines ?
