How to make a outdoor water fountainwork.?

a friend of mine took some leaves of a gunnera plant and made 3 molds from them with cement and put them together to make a outdoor water fountain.she put one leave on top of the other.How does she hook up her pump to have the water go down each leave.Does she have to put holes in the middle of each leave for the pump hose.Help.
