Best way to rank inner pages?

Best way to rank inner pages?
Hey, i have a Word press site, I am working on a mini authority site.
The question i have is how do I get better a ranking for each inner page?
Do i get some quality links to each article? Book marking to each article? m a bit stumped here.
I have been doing some back linking to the main URL and Each article I have put up has been indexed but with very bad rankings.
How do you do it? any advice?
